How to create an agile classroom

Same same but different

In recent years we have seen a shift in classroom design. As class numbers increase, it’s more important than ever to maximise the functionality of our rooms and to monopolise on the space available. Here is our guide on how to create great, multi-functional areas.

Step One: Maximise Floor Space

To maximise a classrooms footprint, it is important to condense the storage.

A teacher or storage wall is an effective method to achieve this as it utilises one wall, making full use of storage height, whilst freeing up all the other areas of the classroom.

Our Teacher walls can be fully customised to include everything from Gratnell’s trays and white boards to interactive screens or even coat hooks.

We listen to our customers needs and advise on the best solutions for the environment. Our team can maximise the space to provide a space that makes the most of the room for whatever the use

Step Two: Choose Mobile Furniture

Selecting furniture that is easy to move is crucial. You could choose tables that stack well or ones with flip tops so they can be stored at the side of the room whilst not in use.

Furniture with wheels will help you to change layouts quickly.

For seating, you want something that is lightweight, durable and that stacks well, such as the one-piece chair in our images.

Step Three: Engage with the students

Once you have your furniture, it’s time to utilise your new classroom in new ways to encourage engagement with the students. Think of your lesson plan and how best to interact with the students. Does the lesson require a table? If not, how about assembling the chairs in front of the whiteboard to promote focus? For collaborative work, the tables can be reconfigured into groups.

No time to plan? A standard classroom layout is always an easy back up, or dare I say it, let the students decide…

It’s not just creating better spaces but a whole new learning experience for this and future generations of children. Encouraging them to learn in collaborative spaces and develop in an inspiring world of educational
